Hi there,
Juan is 5 years older than his brother Carlos
J = 5 + C
Five years ago, Juan was twice as old as Carlos.
J - 5 = 2(C - 5)
Replace 'J' with (5 + C)
5 + C - 5 = 2(C - 5)
5 + C - 5 = 2C - 10
Collect like terms
C - 2C = -10
-C = -10
C = 10
Current ages:
Juan = 15 yrs old
Carlos = 10 yrs old
Hope this helps:-)
