Hi there,
Isabel is 6 years older than marie
I = 6 + M
In 4 years, isabels age will be
9 years less than twice maries age.
I + 4 = 2(M + 4)- 9
I + 4 = 2M + 8 - 9
Replace I with (6 + M) from equation above.
6 + M + 4 = 2M + 8 - 9
Collect like terms
M - 2M = -1 - 10
-M = -11
M = 11
Marie is 11 years old
Isabel is 17 years old.
Hope this helps:-)
