You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let  x  be the Ann's present age  (in years).

Then her father present age is  5x  years,  according to the condition.

From the other side,  the father is  32 years older that Ann,  according to the condition.

It gives an equation

5x - x = 32.

The solution is  x = 32%2F4 = 8.

So,  Ann is  8  years old now.  Her father is  40 years old.

Answer.  Ann's present age is  8 years.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First list - Ages now: (plug in for answers)
Let x = be Ann's age now
Let 5x = Father's age now

Second list - Ages before: (to set up in equations)
x = Ann's age when she was born
5x+32 = Father's age when she was born

Set up an equation:
x = 5x+32
x-5x = 5x+32-5x (get rid of one numerical coefficent)
4x = 32
__ __
4 4 (Divided by 4 on both sides)
x = 8

Now plug in:

First listed values:
Ann's age now: x = 8 years old
Father's age now: 5x = 5(8) = 40 years old

Check:
Father's age before + 8 years later = Father's age now
32 + 8 = 40 years
which is 5x + 32 = 5(8) - 32 = 8 {Ann's age}
