then
d = difference in the ages (A-B)

A says to B �My present age is five times your5( age when I was an old as you are now.
A = 5(B-d)
A = 5B - 5d
Replace d with (A-B)
A = 5B - 5(A-B)
A = 5B - 5A + 5B
A + 5A = 10B
6A = 10B
Simplify
3A = 5B
A = B

If the sum of their present ages is 48 years,
A + B = 48
Replace A with 5/3A
B + B = 48
B = 48
B = *48
B = 18 yrs is B's age
then
48 - 18 = 30 yrs is A's age
