F-1yr=4(S-1yr)
F-1yr=4S-4yr Substitute for F
S + 30 yrs-1yr=4S-4 Add 4yr to each side
S + 33 yrs=4S Subtract S from each side .
33 yrs=3S Divide each side by 3.
11 yrs=son's age ANSWER 1: The son is 11 years old.
F=S+30 yrs=11yrs+30yrs=41 yrs ANSWER 2: The father is 41 years old.
CHECK:
F-1 yr=4(S-1 yr)
