Linda, Jenny and Penny shared a pack of stickers in the ratio 7:5:3.
The total number of stickers Linda and Jenny have is 36 more than Penny's share.
Find the total number of stickers shared by the 3 girls.
:
let x = the multiplier
then
7x = no. of stickers L has
5x = no. of stickers J has
3x = no. of stickers P has
therefore
15x = total number of stickers
:
"The total number of stickers Linda and Jenny have is 36 more than Penny's share."
7x + 5x = 3x + 36
12x - 3x = 36
9x = 36
x = 36/9
x = 4 is the multiplier
therefore
15 * 4 = 60 total stickers
:
Check this
28 + 20 + 12 = 60
