A father is now 7 times as old as his son in 5 years he will be 4 times as old as his son will be then. what are their present ages?

f = 7s
f+5 = 4(s+5)

Substitute and solve for "f":::
7s + 5 = 4s + 20
3s = 15
s = 5 yrs (son's age now)

Solve for "f"::
f = 7s
f = 35 yrs (father's age now)
