They have a total of $96
For the girl to have twice as much as the boy, the boy would have x, the girl would have 2x, for a total of 2x+x=3x which is $96. So the boy would have $32, and the girl $64. If the girl has $12 and she needs $64, the boy must give the girl $52 so she will have twice as much as he does.
