Let number of years when Dana will be 3 times Emma's age, be y

Then at that time, Emma will be 12 + y, and Dana will be 57 + y

We then have: 57 + y = 3(12 + y)

57 + y = 36 + 3y

y - 3y = 36 - 57

- 2y = - 21

y = , or  years 

The number of years should be an INTEGER, but as seen, it's not. Maybe you need to recheck

the problem to see if it's as you stated here.
