I have to solve using one variable. It's easy to see the answer would be 5 years ago, when I was 10 and my cat was 5; but I have to solve using algebra.

x the number of years ago You were twice as old as the cat
15 - x = 2(10-x)
15 - x = 20 - 2x
x = 5
