a)Find the curved surface area of a closed cylinder petrol storage tank that is 4.2m in diameter and 4.5m in height.
The curved surface area is the circumference of the tank times the height
A =
A = 59.376 sq/m
:
b)How much steel was used if 1/12 (one twelfth) of the steel was wasted in making the tank.
The amt of steel to make the tank is the curved surface area plus the bottom and top.
A = + 59.376
A = 170.2 sq/m of steel in the tank
:
1/12 or .08333 was wasted, therefore 11/12 or .9166 of the total steel = 170.2
.91666t = 170.2
t = 170.2/.916666
t = 185.7 sq/m of steel used to make the tank
