Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
he is currently 1/3 of his mother's age. In 9 years he will be 2/3 of his mothers age. What is his current age
---
Equations:
h = (1/3)m
h+9 = (2/3)(m+9)
-----
Substitute for "h" and solve for "m"
(1/3)m + 9 = (2/3)m + 6
----
(1/3)m = 3
m = 9 years (mother's age now; sounds strange)
--
h = (1/3)m = 3 years (stranger still)
