Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bill is three times as old as Mary. Bill is 48. How old will Bill be when he is twice as old as Mary?
----------
Equations::
b = 3m
b = 48
----
So 3m = 48
And M = 16 (Mary's age now)
Therefore Bill = 3m = 3*16 = 48 (Bill's age now)
------
Equation::
48+x = 2(16+x)
48+x = 32 + 2x
x = 16 yrs
----
Bill will be twice Mary's age when Bill is 48+16 = 64
Mary will then be 16+x = 16+16 = 32
