Father is presently 48, while son is presently 12 
, or 48, or 48÷12 = 4, or 
           12     12÷12   1
b.
Father was 44 (48 - 4), when son was 8 (12 - 4)

Father was 42 (48 - 6), when son was 6 (12 - 6)
