write an equation for each statement, simplify as much as possible.

ten years from now, Anna will be twice as old as Barbara.
a + 10 = 2(b+10)
a + 10 = 2b + 20
a = 2b + 20 - 10
a = 2b + 10
Five years ago, Anna was three times as old as Barbara,
a - 5 = 3(b-5)
a - 5 = 3b - 15
a = 3b - 15 + 5
a = 3b - 10
replace with (2b+10)
2b + 10 = 3b - 10
10 + 10 = 3b - 2b
20 = b
Barb is 20 yrs old
then
a = 2(20) + 10
a = 50 yrs for Ann
