x = .75y

"Four years ago, Ruffy was 1 year more than 1/2 old as Orlie."
(x-4) = .5(y-4) + 1
x - 4 = .5y - 2 + 1
x = .5y - 2 + 1 + 4
x = .5y + 3

Substitute .75y for x and solve for y:
