let x=john's age
47-x=jack's age
..
at present:
x+4=john's age
47-x+4=51-x=jack's age

9x+36=102-2x
11x=66
x=6
x+4=10

Let multiplicative factor of their ages be x
Then John's and Jack's current ages are: 2x and 9x, respectively
Four years ago, John was 2x - 4, and Jack was 9x - 4
Since their ages, 4 years ago, was 47, then:
2x - 4 + 9x - 4 = 47
2x + 9x = 47 + 8
11x = 55
x = , or 5
Therefore, Jack's current age = 9(5), or
