Hi can someone help me solving this problem. Thank you very much.
1. Erwins age is currently one fifth the age of his father. Eight years ago, the father is thirteen times as old as his son was then. How old is each now?
2. Mr. Sta Maria is five years older than his wife. Five years ago, his age was 4/3 her age. What will be their ages 8 years from now?
3. Eunice age is 2 years less than three times her brother's age. Four years from now, Eunice will be twice as old as her brother. How old are they now?
1.
Let father's age be F
Then Erwin's age = , or
Eight years ago, the father was F - 8, and Erwin was
We now have:
5F - 40 = 13F - 520 ------- Multiplying by LCD, 5
5F - 13F = - 520 + 40
- 8F = - 480
F, or father's current age = , or
Erwin's current age: , or
You can do the check!!
Now, try the other 2, applying the same concept.
