Question 857811: Garth is twice as old as Darick. If the sum of their ages is 48, how old is each right now?
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
G = 2D [Garth is twice as old as Darick.]
G + D = 48 [the sum of their ages is 48]
Substitute the value of G from the first equation into the second.
(2D) + D = 48
3D = 48
Divide each side by 3
D = 16
If Darick is 16, then Garth is 32 [twice as old]
.
Let's prove that it's correct by finding the sum of their ages.
16 + 32 does indeed equal 48.
Success!
