Question 827788: pls. I have tried my best to solve the question below but i find it difficult.question is A girl is half her mothers age n the father is five years older than the mother.their total age is 100.what is the age of the girl,the mother and the father
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let g = girl's age
let m = Mom's age
Let f = Dad's age
:
Write an equation for each statement
:
"A girl is half her mothers age"
g = .5m
:
"and the father is five years older than the mother."
f = m + 5
:
"Their total age is 100."
g + m + f = 100
using the 1st two equations, we can replace g with .5m and replace f with (m+5)
.5m + m + (m+5) = 100
combine like terms
2.5m = 100 - 5
2.5m = 95
m = 95/2.5
m = 38 yrs old is Mom
I'll let you find f and g, ensure that the 3 ages add up 100
:
what is the age of the girl,the mother and the father
