A father is twice as old as his son. Twelve years ago the father was four times as old as the son was then. Determine their present ages.
son ----------x years
father------------2x years
12 years ago
son = x-12 years
father= 2x-12
2x-12=2(x-12)
2x-12=4x-48
4x-2x=48-12
2x=36
x=18

son = 18 years
father = 2x= 36 years
