Equations:
a = m + 2
a-1 = 3(m-1)

Substitute for "a" and solve for "m":
m+2-1 = 3m-3
2m = 4
m = 2 yrs (Mary's age now)
a = m+2 = 4 yrs (Ann's age now)

Ann's current age is x + 2.
Jenny's current age is x.
x+2-1 = 3x-1
x+1 = 3x-1
x-3x = -1-1
-2x = -2
x = -2/-2
x = 1
Ann is 1 + 2 or 3 years old.
