Question 79354: My teacher gave me a worksheet with the following problem:
A population of turtles are t years is described by the function p(t)=175(1.145)^t. How long does it take for the population to triple?
We are working on logs and interest and I remember doing problems like this before but I am having trouble starting it.

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A population of turtles are t years is described by the function p(t)=175(1.145)^t. How long does it take for the population to triple?
----------
Your equation implies they started with 175 turtles.
Tripling that number gives 25
EQUATION:
525=175(1.145)^t
Divide both sides by 175 to get:
3= 1.145^t
Take the log of both sides to get:
log3 = t*log1.145
t=[log3]/[log1.145]
t=8.11 years
It will take more than 8 years for the population of turtles to triple.
