a + b = 36
:
If the larger number is divided by the smaller number, the quotient is 2 and the remainder is 3.
= 2
multiply both sides by b
a - 3 = 2b
or
a - 2b = 3
:
Use elimination here, subtract the above from the 1st equation
a + b = 36
a - 2b = 3
---------------subtracting eliminates a find b
3b = 33
b = 33/3
b = 11
