Mike is two years younger than his sister Sarah.
M = S - 2
If in 3 years their ages add up to 48.
(M + 3) + (S + 3) = 48
Replace M with S - 2
(S - 2 + 3) + (S + 3) = 48
Remove brackets
S - 2 + 3 + S + 3 = 48
Collect like terms
2S + 4 = 48
2S = 48 - 4
2S = 44
S = 22
Current ages:
Mike is 20 years old
Sarah is 22 years old
