The width W of a rectangle is 5cm shorter thanks it's length. The perimeter is 50cm.

Let w = width
then
w+5 = length
.
2(w + w+5) = 50
(w + w+5) = 25
2w+5 = 25
2w = 20
w = 10 cm (width)
