Question 705464: How old is Fred if next year he will be twice as old as he was seven years ago?
Answer by fcabanski(1391)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Fred's age is x. Fred's age next year is x+1. Fred's age seven years ago is x-7.

The question states that his age next year x+1 is (=) twice his age seven years ago (2*(x-7).

x+1 = 2(x-7) ---> x+1 = 2x -14 ---> 15 = x.

Fred is 15. 7 years ago he was 8, and next year he is 16, which is twice as old as 8.
