Write an equation for each statement
:
Danielle is 36 years older than her daughter Alison.
d = a + 36
:
Two years ago Danielle was 5 times as old as Alison
d - 2 = 5(a-2)
d - 2 = 5a - 10
d = 5a - 10 + 2
d = 5a - 8
Replace d with (a+36)
a + 36 = 5a - 8
36 + 8 = 5a - a
44 = 4a
a = 44/4
a = 11 yrs is Alison
