Write an equation for each statement
:
"the sum of the age of mother and her daughter is 70 years."
m + d = 70:
d = (70-m)
:
" 10 years ago,three times the age of mother was the same as seven times the age of her daughter.
3(m-10) = 7(d-10)
3m - 30 = 7d - 70
3m = 7d - 70 + 30
3m = 7d - 40
Replace d with (70-m)
3m = 7(70-m) - 40
3m = 490 - 7m - 40
3m + 7m = 490 - 40
10m = 450
m = 45 is Mom's age
