Equations:
m = 2d
m+2 = 4(d-15))
---
Substitute for "m" and solve for "d"
2d+2 = 4d-60
2d = 62
daughter = 31 yrs
----
Solve for "m":
m = 2d
Mr. Munch = 2*31 = 62 yrs

Answer by DrBeeee(684) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let M = Mr. Munch's present age
Let D = his daughter's present age.
The problem statement gives use two equations
(1) M = 2*D and
(2) M + 2 = 4*(D - 15)
To solve, substitute (1) into (2) to get
(3) 2*D + 2 = 4*D - 60 or
(4) 2*D = 62 or
(5) D = 31, then using (1) we get
(6) M = 62
Check these answers with (2).
Is (62 + 2 = 4*(31 - 15))?
Is (64 = 4*16)?
Is (64 = 64)? Yes
Answer: Mr. Munch is 62 and his daughter is 31.
