A man spent 1/3 of his life in England, 1/4 of it in Scotland and the remainder of it, which is 40 years, in Canada.
What was his age?
:
Let a = his age
:
a = a + a + 40
mult by 12 to get rid of the denominators, results:
12a = 4a + 3a + 12(40)
12a = 7a + 480
12a - 7a = 480
5a = 480
a = 480/5
a = 96 is his age
:
Check this:
*96 + *96 + 40 =
32 + 24 + 40 = 96
