2x + y = 770
3x + 2y = 1260
solve for y in the first equation to get y = 770 - 2x
substitute for y in the second equation to get:
3x + 2*(770 - 2x) = 1260

3x + 1540 - 4x = 1260
combine like terms and subtract 1540 from both sides of the equation go get:
-4x = 1260 - 1540 which becomes:
