Question 670974: The sum of the present ages of a man and his brother is 40 years. In seven years, The man will be twice as old as his brother. Find their present ages.
Answer by partha_ban(41)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the man's age = x
Brother's age = 40 - x
*
In 7 years, man's age = x + 7
and his brther's age = 40 - x + 7 = 47 - x
*
By condition, x + 7 = 2 * (47-x)
x + 7 = 94 - 2x
x + 2x = 94 - 7
3x = 87
x = 87 / 3 = 29
*
Hence Man's present age = 29 years
and his brother's age = 40 - 29 = 11 years
