let m = mothers present age

Six years ago, Godwin was 1/5 as old as his mother.
m - 6 = 5(g - 6)
m - 6 = 5g - 30
m = 5g - 30 + 6
m = 5g - 24
:
His mother is now three times as old as Godwin.
m = 3g
Replace m with (5g-24)
5g - 24 = 3g
5g - 3g = 24
2g = 24
g = 12 yrs

3*12 = 36 yrs is Mom's age
