a father is 28 year older than his daughter age NOW 

in 2 years time he will be 3 times old as his daughter

Translate into an equation: father's age NOW is (x+28)

...in 2 years time

 (x+28) + 2 = 3(x+2)

    x + 30 = 3x+ 6

         24 = 2x

         12 = x, the daughters age NOW.  Father is 40.
