Jack is 2 times as old as Lacy. 8 years from now the sum of their ages will be 46 . How old are they now?
-----------
Equation:
J = 2L
(J+8) + (L+8) = 46
---
Substitute for "J" and solve for "L":
(2L+8) + (L+8) = 46
-----
3L + 16 = 46
3L = 30
L = 10 (Lacy's age now)
------
Solve for "J":
J = 2L = 20 (Jack's age now)
