Let x=your present age
Four years ago, your age was x-4
After 12 years, your age will be x+12
So our equation to solve is:
x+12=3(x-4)
x+12=3x-12 add 12 to and subtract x from each side
12+12=3x-x
2x=24
x=12----your present age

12+12=36-12
24=24
