Let the age of A be = n + 6
Let the age of B be = n
In five years time:
A = n + 6 + 5
B = n + 5
(n + 6 + 5) + (n + 5)
n + 6 + 5 + n + 5
Combine like terms:
n + n = 2n
6 + 5 + 5 = 16
2n + 16 = 70
Subtract 16 from each side of the equation.
2n + 16 - 16 = 70 - 16
Combine like terms:
16 - 16 = 0
70 - 16 = 54
2n = 54
Divide each side by 2
2n/2 = 54/2
n = 27
n + 6 = 27 + 6 = 33
Therefore:
A is 33 years old and
B is 27 years old.
