Son's age = S

sum of ages of father and son is 62 years:
F + S = 62
F = 62 - S
present age of father is 26 years more than son:
F = 26 + S
62 - S = 26 + S
62 - 26 = S + S
36 = 2S
S = 36/2 = 18
F = 26 + S = 26 + 18 = 44

So, at the present, the father is 44 years old and the son is 18 years old.
