Question 488981: The greater of 2 numbers is 8 less than 3 times the smaller. Their sum is 36. Find the larger number.
Answer by dan_math(11)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if x and y are your numbers, with x > y , you need to find x.
you know x+y=36
also you know that x=3y-8
than y in respect to x is y=36-x then x=3(36-x)-8;
x=108-3x-8;
4x=100;
x=25
the number you are looking for is 25, the greater from the 2 numbers.
