Mary is fourteen years older than John, and next year she will be twice as old as John. How old is Mary now?
**
let x= Mary's present age
x-14 = John's present age
next year:
Mary will be x+1 years of age
John will be (x-14)+1 years of age
(x+1)/(x-14)+1=2
x+1=2x-28+2
x+1=2x-26
x=27
ans:
Mary is 27 years of age now.
