Sylvia can complete a job in 45 minutes working alone. Carla takes 30 minutes to complete the same job. How long would it take if they worked together?
Think in terms of "rate to complete the job".
.
Let x =time (minutes) it takes for both
then
x(1/45 + 1/30) = 1
multiplying both sides by 1350:
x(30 + 45) = 1350
x(75) = 1350
x = 18 minutes
