Question 409415: I am 54 years old, my son is 20 years old, at some point in our lives, my age will be 3 times that of his, I need an equation that models how old in years we will each be when this occurs. I am not real good at these things, so what I have tried I am not going to embarrass myself with giving my inept equations.

Let y = no. of years ago that you were 3 times your son's age
:
54-y = 3(20-y)

Solve for y, and subtract that value from your present ages
