Hi,
Two years ago John was three times as old as Frank
Let x represent Franks's age and 3x John's age 'two years ago.
Write as we Read***
3x + 7 = 2(x+7)
Solving for x
3x + 7 = 2x + 14
x = 7, Franks age two year ago. John was then 21
Right now, the sum of their ages: 9 + 23 = 32
checking our answer
23+5 = 2*14 = 28
