Mom then?

Let the age before the current age be x
TIna's age = x-12
Her mom's age = x-40
Equation:


5(x-12)=x-40

5x-60=x-40

4x=20

x=5





Hence, it was 5 years ago sine her mom was 5 times as old as her.
