Mr. King is two times as old as his daughter.
k = 2d
:
Ten years ago he lacked 5 years from being three times as old as his daughter was then.
k - 10 + 5 = 3(d-10)
:
k - 5 = 3d - 30
:
k = 3d - 30 + 5
:
k = 3d - 25
:
Replace k with 2d
2d = 3d - 25
:
25 = 3d - 2d
:
d = 25 yrs is the daughter
then
2(25) = 50 yrs is Mr K

:
Check solution in the statement:
"Ten years ago he lacked 5 years from being three times as old as his daughter was then."
50 - 10 = 3(15) - 5
40 = 45 - 5
