Write an equation for each statement:

d = 2i

"Ed is 16 years older than Irene."
e = i + 16

"The sum of all three of their ages is 60 years."
d + i + e = 60

Find the age of each person.
Solve in terms of i, substitute for d & e, in the sum equation
2i + i + (i+16) = 60
4i = 60 - 16
4i = 44

i = 11
