Question 255078: A child is 1/3 the age of the older sibling. The sum of their ages is 16. How old is the younger child?
Answer by vksarvepalli(154)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the age of the child (younger one) be c
the age of the elder one be s
given c=1/3 s => s=3c
and c+s=16
so c+3c=16 => 4c=16
so c=4
and s=12
so the younger child is 4 years old
