Let G = Gideon M = mother, and F = father.
(i) G = F - 30.
(ii) M = 3G
(iii)F = M + 2.
Substitute (iii) into (i) to get
(iv) G = M + 2 - 30
(ii) M = 3G
Substitute (ii) into (iv) to get
(v) G = 3G + 2 - 30.
Solve for G.
-2G = -28
G = 14.
M = 42.
F = 44.
