Step 2. Let 2x be the age of Don since he'1 twice as old as Irene.

Step 3. Let x+16 be the age of Ed since he's 16 years older than Irene.

Step 4. Then, x+2x+x+16=60 since the sum of their ages is 60.

Step 5. Solving yields the following steps

Subtract 16 from both sides of the equation

Divide by 4 to both sides of the equation
